Air Force PT Test Scoring Chart Explained (New 2026 Format)
The Air Force overhauled how it scores fitness, and the new chart looks very different from the old run, push-ups, and sit-ups test. Here is how the points break down and what it takes to pass.
The four scored components
The new test spreads 100 points across four areas:
- Cardio, 50 points: a 2-mile run, the HAMR 20-meter shuttle run, or a 2-kilometer walk.
- Body composition, 20 points: a waist-to-height ratio measurement.
- Upper body, 15 points: push-ups or hand-release push-ups.
- Core, 15 points: sit-ups, a forearm plank, or cross-leg reverse crunches.
The big shift is how much cardio is worth. Half your score rides on the run or shuttle, so endurance is where the test is won or lost.
What passes
You need at least 75 points overall to pass, and you also have to clear the minimum on each component, so a great push-up score cannot rescue a poor run. Scores fall into three bands: Excellent at 90 and above, Satisfactory from 75 to just under 90, and Unsatisfactory below 75.
Standards shift by age and gender
Run times, shuttle counts, and rep minimums all change with your age group and gender, so the same raw performance scores differently for different airmen. The cleanest way to know exactly where you land is to plug your numbers in.
Train for the points that matter
Because cardio carries half the score, your run is the highest-leverage thing to train. Build an aerobic base, add intervals, and do not neglect the body composition component, which is now worth more than either strength event. Hybrid Weight Vest MK2
Half your score is cardio. The Hybrid Weight Vest MK2 adds load to runs, rucks, and bodyweight circuits to raise your conditioning, then test fresh and faster.
