Every U.S. military branch has its own annual physical fitness test. Events, scoring, and pass standards vary significantly. The special operations selections (SEAL, Ranger, AF Special Warfare, Special Forces) are separate screening tests with much higher standards — meeting the minimum qualifies, but competitive scores are what actually gets you selected.

Which branch's test is hardest?

It depends on body type. The ACFT is the most demanding strength-wise. The Marine CFT punishes anaerobic capacity. The USMC PFT requires raw pull-up strength most civilian athletes lack. The Navy PRT and AF PT are the most accessible.

For selection — BUD/S is widely considered the most physically demanding overall. PJ pipeline is the most technically demanding. SFAS rewards mental resilience in isolation. RASP rewards physical durability under cadre pressure. All wash out 60-80% of candidates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these calculators official?

No. These are training tools based on current published standards for each branch and selection pipeline. Your official record is always administered through your service's system (PRIMS, MyFitness, DTMS, etc.) or pipeline cadre. Use these for goal-setting, training planning, and tracking your progression.

Do the standards account for age and gender?

Yes, where applicable. Navy PRT, USMC PFT/CFT, and Air Force PT all pull from age-bracketed gender-specific tables. The ACFT uses gender-neutral general standards. Special operations selections (PST, RASP, PAST, SFAS) use gender-neutral standards.

What's the difference between a PT test and a selection screening?

PT tests are annual or semi-annual fitness requirements for service members. Selection screenings (PST, RASP, PAST, SFAS) are additional gates you must pass to enter elite pipeline training. Selection standards are significantly higher — and passing the minimum rarely gets you selected.

Why are selection tiers "Fail / Minimum / Competitive / Elite" instead of pass/fail?

Because minimum scores rarely get candidates selected. Community managers and selection boards pick the most competitive candidates they can, not just everyone who meets the bar. The tier system reflects how selection actually works — not just how the test is scored.

Which tool should I start with?

Pick based on your current or target branch/pipeline. If you're enlisting, start with the branch PT test. If you're already in and prepping for selection, jump straight to PST, RASP, PAST, or SFAS. Use the calculators to identify your weakest event, then fix it.
