How the AFT is scored

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) is the Army's current physical readiness test. It replaced the six-event ACFT in June 2025, cutting the test to five events. Each event is worth 0-100 points, for a maximum total of 500, and you need at least 60 points in every event to pass. Soldiers in combat MOS roles must also score at least 350 total under sex-neutral scoring (effective January 1, 2026 for Regular Army and AGR), while the general standard for combat-enabling MOS is 300 total with sex- and age-normed scoring. The events test strength, endurance, and anaerobic capacity, the qualities needed for real combat tasks.

Event scoring standards (general baseline)

Event Min (60) Max (100)
3-Rep Max Deadlift (MDL) 140 lbs 340 lbs
Hand-Release Push-Ups (HRP) 10 reps 60 reps

How to improve your weakest event

Deadlift (MDL): Heavy triples at 80-85% of 1RM. 3 sessions per week with accessory hamstring and grip work. Straps on volume days.

Battle Straps

BUILD DEADLIFT POWER

Battle Straps

Premium lifting straps for heavy triples. Eliminates grip as the limiter on your MDL working sets so you train the legs and back, not your forearm endurance.

Hand-Release Push-Ups (HRP): Accumulate high daily volume. 100+ push-ups per day, split across sets of 15-25 with perfect form. The "release" phase is what most soldiers bomb.

Battle Bands

TRAIN PUSH-UPS

Battle Bands

3-pack resistance bands (10 to 125 lbs). Adds load to clean-rep push-up training and gives you assistance options when chasing high daily volume.

Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC): 40 yd suicide sprints, sled drags, and farmers carries. Condition specifically . this event punishes poor anaerobic capacity.

Plank (PLK): Weighted planks, hollow body holds, and farmers carries. Time under tension is the game.

Hanging Ab Straps V2

BUILD PLANK STRENGTH

Hanging Ab Straps V2

Made in USA hanging ab straps. Build the deep core strength that holds a long PLK without shaking. Hanging knee raises and L-sits translate directly to plank score.

2-Mile Run (2MR): 80% easy aerobic volume (Zone 2), 20% interval work (400m repeats, tempo runs). Most soldiers run their easy days too hard and their hard days too slow.

Hybrid Vest MK2

CRUSH YOUR 2MR TIME

Hybrid Vest MK2

Weighted vest for loaded Zone 2 runs and intervals. Train a few weeks loaded, take the vest off on test day, fly through the 2MR.

About this calculator

This calculator uses the current AFT general scoring standards as a baseline estimate. Official scoring uses sex- and age-normed tables for the general standard and sex-neutral tables for combat MOS soldiers. For your official record, check with your unit master fitness trainer or the Army's official AFT tables.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good AFT score?

The general standard is 300 total with at least 60 points in each event, and combat MOS soldiers need 350 under sex-neutral scoring. Out of the 500 maximum, 400+ is a solid performance and 450+ puts you in the top tier.

What's the minimum passing score?

You need at least 60 points in every single event. Failing any event fails the test, even if your other scores are strong. Beyond that, the general standard requires 300 total (sex- and age-normed scoring), and soldiers in combat MOS roles must score at least 350 total under sex-neutral scoring, effective January 1, 2026 for Regular Army and AGR.

How often do soldiers take the AFT?

Twice per year for record. Unit commanders can schedule diagnostics more frequently.

How is the AFT different from the ACFT?

The AFT replaced the six-event ACFT in June 2025. One event was removed, bringing the test to five events and the maximum score from 600 down to 500. The five remaining events kept their scoring scales, and combat MOS soldiers now face a higher sex-neutral standard.

Is the AFT harder than the APFT?

Yes. The APFT tested push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2-mile run. The AFT adds strength (deadlift) and combat-specific conditioning (SDC), and it replaced sit-ups with the plank. It's a more complete and demanding test.
