75TH RANGER REGIMENT: RASP SELECTION

RASP Calculator: Army Ranger Requirements 2026

Check your numbers against the RASP requirements the Army publishes: 41 hand-release push-ups, a 2:35 plank, and 6 pull-ups on the pre-RASP test, then a 5-mile run under 40 minutes and a 12-mile ruck at 35 lb. Every event also shows a competitive target, because the minimum rarely gets you selected.

RASP requirements 2026

The Army's GoArmy Rangers page lists a pre-RASP fitness test of 41 hand-release push-ups, a 2:35 plank, 6 pull-ups, a 2-mile run, and a 6-mile ruck march. During RASP, candidates complete a 15-meter swim in full uniform, a 5-mile run in under 40 minutes, and a 12-mile march with a 35-pound ruck.

The Army does not publish a time for the 2-mile run, the 6-mile ruck, or the 12-mile ruck on that page. Where a time below isn't from the Army, the table says so. The competitive column is Battle Bunker's training target, not an Army standard.

What is RASP?

RASP is the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, the selection course every soldier passes to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment. It runs at Fort Benning, Georgia. It is not Ranger School, which is a separate leadership school that awards the Ranger tab.

RASP 1 is for junior enlisted soldiers (E-1 to E-5) and lasts about 8 weeks. GoArmy describes two phases:

  • Phase 1, about 5 weeks: physical and psychological testing, the 12-mile ruck at 35 lb, land navigation, and medical first responder tests.
  • Phase 2, about 3 weeks: skills training in direct action, airfield seizure, personnel recovery, marksmanship, and explosives.

RASP 2 is a shorter course, about 3 weeks, for senior NCOs, warrant officers, and officers joining the Regiment.

How to train each event

Hand-release push-ups: Daily volume with a full chest-to-ground release on every rep. Test a 2-minute set weekly. Reps without a full release don't count at RASP, so don't train them.

Plank: Three to four holds a week, adding 10-15 seconds at a time. Add weighted planks and hollow holds once you pass 3:00.

Pull-ups: Grease the groove with sets at 30-40% of your max spread through the day. Add weighted pull-ups twice a week once you're past 10. Use band assistance if you're under 6.

2-mile and 5-mile runs: Keep 80% of your running easy and 20% hard (800 m repeats at goal pace). Run one tempo session a week at 10-15 seconds per mile slower than 5-mile goal pace.

Rucks: The decisive events. Build from 6 miles at 35 lb to 12 miles at 35 lb over 12-16 weeks. A 3:00:00 12-mile ruck is a 15:00 per mile pace; 2:45:00 is 13:45 per mile. Train in the boots and pack you'll wear.

About this calculator

Minimums come from the Army's GoArmy Rangers page where the Army publishes them. Where it lists an event without a time, the calculator uses the long-standing or commonly used time and says so. Competitive targets are Battle Bunker's recommendations. The Regiment's cadre run the actual assessment and set standards for each class. Standards checked September 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is RASP?

RASP is the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, the selection course for the 75th Ranger Regiment. RASP 1 is about 8 weeks for E-1 to E-5 soldiers. RASP 2 is about 3 weeks for senior NCOs, warrant officers, and officers.

How long is RASP?

RASP 1 lasts about 8 weeks: roughly 5 weeks of assessment and 3 weeks of skills training. RASP 2 lasts about 3 weeks.

What are the RASP physical requirements?

The Army lists a pre-RASP fitness test of 41 hand-release push-ups, a 2:35 plank, 6 pull-ups, a 2-mile run, and a 6-mile ruck march. During RASP you complete a 15-meter swim in full uniform, a 5-mile run in under 40 minutes, and a 12-mile ruck march with 35 pounds.

What is the pre-RASP PT test?

It is the fitness screen before selection: 41 hand-release push-ups, a 2:35 plank, 6 pull-ups, a 2-mile run, and a 6-mile ruck. The Army doesn't publish the run and ruck times on GoArmy. The long-standing standard is 14:30 for the 2 miles and 1:30:00 for 6 miles at 35 pounds.

What AFT score do you need for RASP?

Infantry and the other combat MOSs are held to the AFT combat standard: 350 points with at least 60 in every event, scored sex-neutral. Aim well above it.

Is RASP the same as Ranger School?

No. RASP selects soldiers for the 75th Ranger Regiment. Ranger School is a leadership course open across the Army that awards the Ranger tab. Regiment Rangers pass RASP first and usually attend Ranger School later.

What is the biggest physical reason candidates fail RASP?

Ruck-related injuries and cumulative fatigue: stress fractures, IT band problems, and feet that break down. The standards aren't extreme on paper. They're hard because you have to hit them after days of short sleep and constant pressure.

How long should I prepare for RASP?

Most successful candidates train for 6-12 months. Ruck volume is the usual limiter, because feet, joints, and connective tissue adapt slower than your aerobic base.
