These are the official Navy PRT standards from Guide-5A (Dec 2025) for test sites below 5,000 feet. Each cell shows maximum (100 points) / minimum passing (Probationary, 45 points). Push-ups are the most reps in 2 minutes, and run times are the slowest time that still earns the score.
Example: a man aged 20-24 needs 37 push-ups, a 1:10 plank, and a 13:30 run to pass, and 87 push-ups, 3:20, and 8:30 to max. A woman aged 20-24 needs 16 push-ups, 1:00, and 15:30 to pass.

Standards above 5,000 feet of elevation use a separate table (Guide-5A Table 4-2) with slower cardio times. This calculator uses the standard table.
How the Navy PRT is scored
The Physical Readiness Test (PRT) is taken twice per year, once in each PFA cycle. Sailors do push-ups, then the forearm plank, then a cardio event, with 5 to 15 minutes between each. Every event is scored from the official table for your age group and gender, in 5-point steps from 45 to 100.
Navy PRT performance categories
| Category | Points |
|---|---|
| Outstanding (High, Medium, Low) | 100, 95, 90 |
| Excellent (High, Medium, Low) | 85, 80, 75 |
| Good (High, Medium, Low) | 70, 65, 60 |
| Satisfactory (High, Medium) | 55, 50 |
| Probationary | 45, the lowest passing score |
| Failure | Below Probationary in any event |
You pass when every event reaches Probationary or higher. Fail one event and the whole PRT is a failure. Your overall PRT score is the average of your three event scores, reported at the matching category and level.
How to improve each event
Push-Ups: Accumulate 150-250 reps daily across 5-8 clean sets. Add eccentric slow-downs once a week. Train to 2-minute test failure with controlled rest.
TRAIN PUSH-UPS
Battle Bands
3-pack resistance bands (10 to 125 lbs). Adds load for clean-rep volume training, push-up assistance work, and accessory drills you can run anywhere on ship or in barracks.
Shop Battle Bands →Plank: Daily weighted planks (add 10-25 lb on your back). Hollow-body holds, farmers carries, and deadlift-style core work. The plank is a strength test disguised as a hold.
BUILD PLANK STRENGTH
Hanging Ab Straps V2
Made in USA hanging ab straps. Build the deep core strength that holds a long plank without shaking. Hanging knee raises and L-sits translate directly to PRT plank performance.
Shop Hanging Ab Straps V2 →1.5-Mile Run: 80% easy aerobic (Zone 2), 20% intervals. 400m repeats at 5K goal pace with 90-second rests. Run a tempo mile weekly.
CRUSH YOUR RUN TIME
Hybrid Vest MK2
Weighted vest for loaded Zone 2 runs and intervals. The fastest path to a sub-9 minute pace. Run a few weeks loaded, take the vest off on test day, fly.
Shop Hybrid Vest MK2 →Row / Swim: Same principle: alternate steady-state capacity with interval sessions. Technique matters more than most Sailors think; spend time drilling form.
About this calculator
Scoring uses the official Navy Guide-5A PRT tables (Dec 2025) under OPNAVINST 6110.1L, for elevations below 5,000 feet. A result must meet the listed number to earn that level: reps and plank time at or above it, cardio time at or below it. Your score of record comes from your Command Fitness Leader in PRIMS. Use this for training and goal-setting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What score do I need to pass the Navy PRT?
Probationary (45 points) or higher in every event. For a man aged 20-24 that is 37 push-ups, a 1:10 plank, and a 13:30 1.5-mile run. For a woman aged 20-24 it is 16 push-ups, a 1:00 plank, and a 15:30 run.
How is the overall Navy PRT score calculated?
Each event earns points from the official table, from 45 to 100 in 5-point steps. The overall score is the average of the three events, reported at the matching category and level. A failure in any single event fails the PRT, no matter the average.
How long is the Navy PRT plank?
Hold as long as you can with proper form. The event stops at 3:24 for men and 3:14 for women, which is the Outstanding High time for the 17-19 age group.
Is the plank replacing curl-ups?
Yes. The Navy replaced curl-ups with the forearm plank in 2020. Curl-ups are no longer scored.
What cardio events are allowed on the Navy PRT?
The 1.5-mile run or walk is the standard. With command approval, Sailors can use the 2,000-meter row, a treadmill at 1.0 percent incline, a 500-yard or 450-meter swim, or a 12-minute stationary bike. This Navy PRT calculator scores the run, row, and both swims. Bike scores depend on the bike model and come from the official PFA app.
How often do Sailors take the Navy PRT?
Twice a year. The PRT is part of the Physical Fitness Assessment, and every Sailor tests once in each PFA cycle.
How does the PFA cycle work?
The Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) includes BCA (Body Composition Assessment) + PRT. Both happen twice per year. Repeated PFA failures within the review window can lead to administrative separation, so a failure is something to fix before the next cycle.
Is this an official Navy PRT calculator?
No. It is a free training tool that uses the official Guide-5A tables. Your score of record is entered in PRIMS by your Command Fitness Leader.
