Hyrox Gyms in Boston: Where to Train for Your Next Race (2026)

Battle Bunker August 3, 2026 9 min read

Short answer: the strongest officially affiliated options inside the city are Lynx Fitness Club in Back Bay and CrossFit Boston, which spreads six locations across the metro. Across the river, Commonwealth CrossFit in Somerville and Dimensions Physical Therapy in East Cambridge. For a run-first studio group with a structured race build, MYSTRYDE in Charlestown and South Boston. For open gym access to every station on your own schedule, Backyard in the Seaport.

Hyrox is not a workout you can improvise. It asks for a SkiErg, a rower, a sled you can actually push on turf, wall balls at two target heights, a heavy sandbag, and enough clear floor to walk 100 meters of lunges. Most commercial gyms in Boston have two of those six things.

The clock is running. HYROX lists HWPO HYROX Boston for October 8 to 11, 2026 on its official event page, with the venue still marked as coming soon. The gyms below have been programming toward it since spring.

A note on "official affiliate" versus "Hyrox-style"

This distinction matters. An official HYROX affiliate, sometimes branded as a HYROX Training Club, pays for affiliation, gets the official programming library, and can market under the HYROX name. A gym running Hyrox-style conditioning is not worse, it is just not the same thing. Below I state what each gym claims about itself on its own site. Where a gym makes no official claim, I say so.

Hyrox gyms in Boston

Lynx Fitness Club

Area: Back Bay, at 64 Arlington Street near the Public Garden.
Status: States on its own Hyrox page that it is now an official HYROX Training Club.

Lynx runs the most convenient Hyrox schedule downtown: Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 PM, plus Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:00 AM. Five sessions a week is unusual for an affiliate and lets you build a real training week rather than one Sunday grinder. It is a private club rather than a box, with personal training and physical therapy on site. Best for downtown professionals who need early mornings. lynxfitnessclub.com

CrossFit Boston

Area: Six locations, including Back Bay, Fenway, Park Square, Brighton, Needham, and Beverly.
Status: States on its own HYROX Endurance program page that it is an official gym partner of HYROX.

The widest geographic net in Greater Boston by a distance. HYROX Endurance runs as a standing program alongside CrossFit, strength work, and nutrition coaching. Coming from CrossFit, the sled, rower, SkiErg and wall ball infrastructure was already in the building. Invictus Boston now redirects here, so if you were sent to that name, this is where you land. Free trial class. Best for anyone who wants an affiliate near both home and work. crossfitboston.com

Commonwealth CrossFit

Area: Somerville, at 630 Somerville Avenue between Union and Porter.
Status: Describes itself on its own Hyrox page as Boston's official HYROX affiliate gym.

Hyrox classes run Sundays and Thursdays, included at no extra cost for existing CrossFit members, with separate Hyrox-specific memberships for people who only want the race work. What sets it apart is the testing culture: in-house events, fitness tests, and race simulations built into the calendar rather than promised vaguely. Free intro session. Best for Somerville and Cambridge athletes who want structured benchmarking. commonwealthcrossfit.com

Dimensions Physical Therapy

Area: East Cambridge, with meetups at public tracks around Boston.
Status: States on its own site that it became an official Hyrox affiliate gym in June 2024.

The outlier here, and the best value in the city, because it is free. Dimensions is a physical therapy practice run by Hyrox racers, and it hosts the Boston Hyrox Run Club: weekend morning sessions at local tracks built around compromised running, mixed with sandbag lunges, wall balls and burpee broad jumps. Equipment is provided and workouts get scaled. Not somewhere you join for station access, so treat it as a supplement. Best for runners coming in from the endurance side. dimensions-pt.com

MYSTRYDE

Area: Charlestown and South Boston, plus a Beverly studio on the North Shore.
Status: Its own Hyrox program page refers to "affiliate gyms like MAC" and offers members early race registration, which is an affiliate benefit. That is its own claim, not one I could confirm on hyrox.com, so verify when you call.

A treadmill and strength studio group, and the most run-forward option here. The HYROX Boston Group Training Program is a genuine periodized build: a 12 week plan written by a coach, a weekly group workout included in membership, a dedicated Hyrox coach per location, and race simulations at all three studios, which carry equipment for all eight stations. Best for runners who want a plan handed to them. mystryde.com

Backyard

Area: Seaport, at 15 Necco Street.
Status: Runs Hyrox-focused training. Backyard does not claim official affiliate status on its Hyrox pages, so I am not calling it one.

Arguably the most complete Hyrox floor in the city. Backyard states its open gym is stocked to mirror the race: a treadmill that simulates the sled push, an ANKOR sled pull system, SkiErgs and rowers, wall balls, farmers carry implements, sandbags and kettlebells, and running space for transitions. Access is included with open gym memberships. Best for self-programmed athletes who need station access more than coaching. backyardbos.com

What the race demands from a gym

Ignore the branding and walk the floor. These are the six things the race tests.

  • SkiErg. Station one, 1,000 meters, and the most commonly missing machine in American gyms. No SkiErg, no way to train the opening station.
  • Sled push and sled pull. Not just a sled, but a surface and a lane long enough to use it. Hyrox runs 50 meters of pushing and 50 of pulling on turf. A sled on rubber matting in a short lane teaches the wrong friction and pacing.
  • Rower. The easy one. Almost every functional gym in this city has Concept2 rowers.
  • Wall balls. Check the target heights. Men throw to 10 feet, women to 9. A single height is a problem.
  • Sandbag lunges. A bag at your race weight and a lane long enough to walk 100 meters.
  • Farmers carry. Kettlebells or dedicated handles, plus open floor.

The SkiErg and the sled lane eliminate most gyms. Ask about both on your tour, and ask whether members can use them outside class time.

Boston adds two wrinkles. The first is a gift: this is a rowing city, and plenty of athletes on that start line grew up pulling a Concept2. If that is you, the rower is free time, so spend your hours on the sled and the lunges. The second is a tax. A New England winter pushes the running half of your build indoors for months, so ask how much treadmill and indoor running space a gym has.

Training for Hyrox without a Hyrox gym

You do not need an affiliate to get race ready. What you need is a plan and a set of honest substitutes.

Athlete rowing hard on an indoor rowing machine during Hyrox training

The runs: half the race is 8km of running. Do your compromised running outdoors on the Esplanade or the Minuteman while the weather holds, and move it to a treadmill in January without guilt.

Sled push and pull: the best home substitute is a heavy sandbag drag on grass or turf using a strap, or a tire sled. Bear hug carries and short heavy walking intervals build the same quad and calf tolerance under a heart rate you cannot control.

SkiErg: no perfect substitute exists. Banded straight-arm pulldowns, heavy rope work, and rowing intervals get you close. Get on a real SkiErg a few times before race day so the pattern is not new.

Sandbag lunges: train these exactly as written, because you can. One bag at race weight covers this station and the farmers carry pattern, which makes it the highest return piece of equipment you can own for Hyrox, and why I built our line of training sandbags the way I did.

Wall balls: a medicine ball and a strip of tape on a wall at 9 or 10 feet.

Pair the substitutes with structure. Our Hyrox training plan lays out a beginner build week by week, and if you are racing outside New England we have the same breakdown for Hyrox gyms in NYC and Hyrox gyms in San Diego.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a Hyrox affiliate gym to train for Hyrox in Boston?

No. Affiliation gives a gym official programming and marketing rights, not a monopoly on results. Plenty of athletes qualify for the World Championships out of ordinary gyms and garages. What you need is access to a SkiErg and a sled at some point in your build, a plan that progresses compromised running, and consistency. Where affiliation does pay off in Boston is early race registration, since singles waves for a home race fill quickly.

When is the next Hyrox race in Boston?

HYROX lists HWPO HYROX Boston for October 8 to 11, 2026 on its official event page, across four days with singles, doubles, pro, adaptive and relay divisions. The official page still shows the venue as coming soon, so do not book travel around a third-party address until HYROX confirms it. The 2025 debut ran at 415 Summer Street, but that is last year's event.

Which Boston Hyrox gym is best for a total beginner?

Start with the free option. Dimensions Physical Therapy's Boston Hyrox Run Club costs nothing, provides equipment, and scales every workout. A few weeks there and you will know whether you like this before committing. If you want a coached class from day one, Commonwealth CrossFit and CrossFit Boston both offer a free intro or trial.

How far out should I start training for Hyrox?

Twelve to sixteen weeks is the sweet spot for a first race if you already have a base of general fitness. Eight weeks works if you are running consistently. Under six weeks, shift the goal from a time target to finishing well, and spend your sessions on the sled and the sandbag lunges, where undertrained athletes lose the most time. Whatever your window, schedule one full race simulation two to three weeks out.
